For the past couple of months, Yasmin has started to watch movies. She actually understands the concept behind the story. At times it can be very frustrating because I just don't know how to respond to her very intelligent questions. So I am sitting here watching Coraline with her, which by the way I think is a creepy movie...so back to my point..Ms. Yasmin is continuously asking me if she has another mom besides me. Ummmm..No! is my response. I am your only mother Yasmin.
For some reason she just wont believe me. She is determined to believe that she has another mom somewhere. What to do? Do I make up a story and tell her that she has another mom somewhere or continue to repeat my response and convince her that I am the only woman who carried her in my tummy for 10 months and show her the scar that proves the C Section.
I know that we as mother and daughter are entering a stage where I will never be able to give her an answer that satisfies her mind and need to look forward to many repetitive conversations! Gotta love motherhood!

Kids get ideas in their heads and don't want to let them go, no matter what you say. My son would ask the weirdest questions and like your daughter, refuse to believe my answers. I started to just ignore these and turn his attention to something else. Thank goodness he grew out of that! (My husband also helped me see the futility of this by asking me why I was arguing with a three year old. He was right, so I stopped.)
ReplyDeleteMaybe it will work for you?
LOL! that is too funny. You are right, I should change the subject and not even bother to argue with her. Sometimes I cant help myself and get myself in trouble!
